In the picturesque state of Jammu and Kashmir, nestled in the Himalayas, lies the breathtaking destination of Sonamarg. Known as the “Meadow of Gold,” Sonamarg is a paradise for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. In this blog post, we will take you on a detailed journey of my unforgettable trip to Sonamarg, which took place from May 27th to May 30th, 2022. Join me as we delve into the enchanting landscapes, thrilling activities, and cherished memories from this captivating expedition.

Day 1: Arrival in Sonamarg As we arrived in Sonamarg, we were greeted by the majestic snow-capped peaks, glistening glaciers, and lush green meadows that define the region’s natural beauty. The serene Lidder River flowing alongside the town added a soothing touch to the ambiance. After settling into our accommodation, we set out to explore the local market, indulging in delectable Kashmiri cuisine and immersing ourselves in the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Day 2: Exploring Thajiwas Glacier On the second day, we embarked on an exhilarating journey to Thajiwas Glacier, situated at an altitude of 9,186 feet. The scenic drive through winding roads and towering mountains was an adventure in itself. Upon reaching the glacier, we were captivated by the pristine white snow, crystal-clear streams, and panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. We spent the day trekking, skiing, and simply reveling in the tranquil surroundings, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Day 3: Trekking to Krishnasar Lake Our third day in Sonamarg was dedicated to a trek to the mesmerizing Krishnasar Lake. This enchanting waterbody, located at an elevation of 11,500 feet, is renowned for its turquoise waters and breathtaking views. The trek offered a delightful combination of dense forests, vibrant wildflowers, and cascading waterfalls, providing us with ample opportunities to immerse ourselves in the beauty of nature. Upon reaching Krishnasar Lake, we were spellbound by its serene ambiance, reflecting the snow-capped peaks in its shimmering waters. We savored a peaceful picnic by the lake and relished the serenity of the surroundings.

Day 4: Bid Farewell to Sonamarg On our final day in Sonamarg, we reluctantly bid farewell to this enchanting destination. Before departing, we made sure to capture the last glimpses of its captivating landscapes, ensuring that the memories would remain etched in our hearts. As we left Sonamarg, we carried with us a sense of tranquility, a deeper appreciation for nature’s wonders, and the desire to return someday.

We left for a new destination on day 4 and our next destination was Srinagr. Will write a separate blog post for that.

My Sonamarg trip in May 2022 was a remarkable experience that exceeded all expectations. From the awe-inspiring Thajiwas Glacier to the serene Krishnasar Lake, every moment spent in this picturesque destination was filled with wonder and tranquility. Tips for Planning Your Trip to Sonamarg – Here are a few tips for planning your trip to Sonamarg:

  • The best time to visit Sonamarg is during the spring (April-June) or fall (September-October). The weather is pleasant during these months and the crowds are smaller.
  • There are a number of hotels and guesthouses to choose from in Sonamarg. I stayed at the Hotel Grand View and had a great experience.
  • There are a number of things to do in Sonamarg, including hiking, trekking, camping, and fishing. I went for a hike to the Thajiwas Glacier and had a great time.
  • You can get to Sonamarg by flying from Delhi to Srinagar and then taking a taxi to the village. The drive takes about 3 hours.
  • Be sure to pack comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and a hat. The weather in Sonamarg can be unpredictable, so it’s important to be prepared for anything.
